Nerona Imu, King of the World, beside the Akuma no Mi in the One Piece manga

One Piece’s Blue Planet God Cannot Stay in His Own Body

One Piece has spent the Elbaf arc making Nerona Imu the strongest Blue Planet God in the story, then told us he is running out of body. Chapter 1182, released on 10 May 2026, is where the limit stops being a hint. The King of the World is standing in Elbaf on borrowed time. That timer is the most useful thing the arc has added to the final saga.

What the recent chapters established

Chapter 1179 put Imu on the ground in Elbaf for the first time, on 5 April 2026, and named his power the Akuma no Mi. Chapter 1180 had him take down Zoro, Sanji and Hajrudin, beat Loki, crush Luffy and badly wound Scopper Gaban. Chapter 1188 has him call Luffy’s Nika form incredibly weak to his face.

None of that is ambiguous. The ambiguity sits in the condition he arrived under. Chapter 1182 carries the line from Saint Sommers that reframes everything Imu does in the arc: “Great Imu’s body isn’t meant to sustain the outside. But even pushing past that, the strength we need and the strength we ought to destroy are both right here.”

The Imu ledger, chapter by chapter

Oda has built this character across twenty-three years of small additions, and the order matters more than the highlights. The table below keeps only what each chapter added.

Chapter Released What it added about Imu and the gods
287 11 August 2003 Gods enter the story for the first time, as myth rather than characters
1138 3 February 2025 The Harley prophecy of the third world, with Imu holding the Giant Sun, also called the Mother Flame
1179 5 April 2026 Imu leaves Marijoa for the first time and arrives in Elbaf. His power is named as the Akuma no Mi, the Devil’s Fruit
1180 2026 Imu defeats Zoro, Sanji and Hajrudin, beats Loki, nearly kills Luffy, wounds Scopper Gaban
1181 2026 Omen, also called Maki, explained as his military might, a black flame that can counter Haki
1182 10 May 2026 The body limit stated outright, which makes every win in Elbaf a win by a weakened Imu
1188 2026 Imu dismisses Nika as weak next to Joy Boy

Read that list in order and the character stops looking like an unbeatable final boss. He looks like a man winning fights in a body that is not built for the trip. He also knows it better than anyone else in the room.

Why a limit is a better device than a power level

If Imu were simply stronger than everyone, Elbaf would have nowhere to go. A fight that cannot be won is not a story, it is a wait. The limit gives the arc a clock. It gives Imu a reason to leave when he does, and it hands the Straw Hats the only advantage they can use, which is time.

It also connects to the prophecy. Chapter 1138’s Harley shows Imu holding the Giant Sun, which is the Mother Flame. That is the same power that destroyed entire countries in the Void Century. That is the obvious mechanism for removing the limit. When the story shows you the thing that fixes the weakness before it shows you the weakness itself, it has already told you where the final war starts.

Where the strongest god argument gets shaky

Most of the ranking talk about Imu rests on fights he won while weakened. A character who beats Luffy, Loki and Gaban in a failing body has a ceiling nobody has seen. The fair statement is that his limit is unknown rather than proven.

That is the same problem I ran into counting the Sun God titles, where five characters held the title and only some of them earned it. Oda keeps adding to the category while the audience keeps trying to settle it. Any list written today is a list for today’s chapters.

GameRant’s reading, published on 21 October 2026, puts Imu at the top of the Blue Planet gods and expects the nerf to lift in the final war. I think that forecast is right. The ranking underneath it is unfalsifiable, which is fine for a story that is still running and useless as an argument about who wins.

What I am watching for next

The cue is not a new transformation. It is the moment Imu stops paying a price for being outside Marijoa, either because his body adapts or because the Mother Flame arrives. Whichever of those happens first tells you how much of the final war is a fight and how much of it is a countdown.

I have been reading One Piece long enough to stop expecting Oda to hand over a full accounting before he needs it. Chapter 1182 gives the audience exactly one number and lets them work with it. The chapters are on Manga Plus as they release. Elbaf is not over, and the arc still has to show whether Imu’s body gives out before the Straw Hats do.
